purdy.
Posted by: GURT on August 11, 2004 07:50 PMThat looks awesome and fits right into MacOS.
The stop button looks a lot better in this mac theme than it does on Windows, IMO. It should either be rounded or have more clearly defined corners in Winstripe.
Posted by: sunilonln on August 11, 2004 09:45 PMSorry to say but it looked more classy with the black and white icons in my oppinion.
Posted by: jasidog on August 12, 2004 04:14 AMPlease bring Pinstripe back. I don't understand why it was replaced. I'm sorry, but these icons look like painted by a 5-years-old. For me, the abailability of Pinstripe is the reason to use Seamonkey.
Posted by: d. on August 12, 2004 05:19 AMI'm a fan of the older "buttony" design too, but we had some reviews that said it looks too much like Safari, there was too much of a clash between the button styles and the Aqua icons on the toolbar, and the targets were too small. This set introduces big shapes differentiated by color that should be easy to hit with the mouse. It also shares icon shapes with Winstripe, which gives us a nice (IMO) cross-platform brand identity. Though some of the shapes are fairly generic, when you look at it you think "oh, that's Firefox". At least that's the intent :)

Yeah this likely all true despite me likeing the old style much more.
Posted by: jasidog on August 12, 2004 10:40 AMI'm sorry, but this is quite ugly. Different spaces between dropdown arrows for "Back" and "Forward"? Round search and rectangle address fields?
Posted by: alex_t on August 12, 2004 12:45 PMThe stop button (now featuring an 'x' and reduced shadowing) has been improved. But I'm not so happy with other changes:
I prefer the blue arrows — using 20040628 Firefox/0.9.1 — to the upcoming green ones. And the "faded blue" reload button looks, well, faded.
Overall, I've found the blue buttons, in the version of Firefox I'm using, to be more complementary to the colors used in Mac OS X (e.g. the Apple menu) than in this nightly.
Not trying to be too critical here. With every change comes controversy.
Posted by: Jonathan Horak on August 12, 2004 01:16 PMRegarding Kevin's comment: I don't understand why unique artwork across platforms is needed. I'm sorry, but at this point I have the feeling, FF developers are taking the FF brand too serious. Normal users aren't working on several platforms, and those who do, have to adapt to each platform anyway. I think, it is way more important to be consistent with the platform style. Most Mac users I know (including me) don't like programs that don't fit with the environment.
The benefit of a cross platform browser is not to have the same look on all platforms, but to behave (i.e., rendering pages) the same way everywhere.
Posted by: d. on August 13, 2004 12:48 AMIf you don't like the default, just change your theme--to me that's one of the coolest things about Firefox. I hated the old Pinstripe, but every thread I've seen on the subject just proves everyone has different tastes--that's why different themes exist.
I like the new default better than the others, but I still like the iCandy Junior theme for OS X better. One thing that would help OS X users is if the bug for native scrollbars gets fixed, so that you wouldn't need a separate OS X version of themes for them to work properly--sadly, it seems like three-quarters of theme authors don't bother to create an OS X-specific version, and they really shouldn't have to.
Posted by: multifinder on August 16, 2004 09:00 PMI'd be happy to change my theme, if I could find a theme that isn't broken or even more garish than winstripe. Hey, how about RELEASING THE OLD PINSTRIPE AS A THEME? I don't care about the buttony feel, but I really preferred the monochrome icons.
