blogger fixes

For all of you Blogger users who have been having problems with Firefox (especially the crashing during compose) I just wanted to pass on a note that we're all looking into it. Blogger has just posted an update:

Blogger Status

We've just pushed another update to the WYSIWYG editor. This will increase the stability of the new post editor under Mozilla/Firefox on the PC. Previously, longer posts would tend to crash those browsers in Compose mode.

As an additional note, we're completely committed to resolving the cross-browser issues with this new feature. Most of us here use something other than the latest version of IE and we want to make sure that everyone can take advantage of the enhanced editor. Thanks for letting us know about the problems you encounter and for your patience as we fix them.

And we're digging through TalkBack crash reports and Bugzilla bugs to try to make sure we're doing what we can on the client end. I'm confident that by the time we get to Firefox 1.0, Blogger users will have a powerful and comfortable experience using the Blogger tools.

At the moment Midas is partially broken in Firefox due to the Find toolbar, it appears and space and backspace dont work at all.

Asa, do we have a bug on that crash? Sites shouldn't be able to crash us just by using Midas....

BZ, I've asked the blogger guys for bug reports and any information about the crash they're working around. I've also done some preliminary talkback analysis and asked Jay (the expert) to dig around more seriously. "We're on it."

Hey, Asa. (And hi, Boris.) Chris W. here from Google. We're also working on it from our end. We've found a bunch of things in both Midas and MSHTML that I'm trying to work around. You've got a direct line to me, I think, and can use it if you need - it's my top priority right now.

Chris, great to hear from you. I didn't know you were working there. I've tried to contact someone there abou the specific crashers that are happening. I think we can probably pull stack traces out of our talkback data but thought it might be easier if I could get some specific steps to reproduce the problem. I tried to contact a "Jason" there but got the wrong one (Jason Shellen) and he's turned me on to the right Jason (Goldman) and I'm waiting to hear back from him. More in an email coming soon.

You know what's neat? TO find all this kind of stuff working with Mozilla now. Who know if this would have happened just a few years ago.
