I've bounced around between a few different on-line map services, but Yahoo Maps, with their new wi-fi hotspot info pushes them to the top of my list. Good stuff. Good enough that I don't even mind the Intel advertising.
Posted by asa at June 24, 2004 11:34 AMSounds nice... If only we Europeans had use for it ;-).
We have a very nice mapping service here though, at mappy.com, which uses Flash to dynamically zoom in and out on maps, and to allow quick and swift movement! It's pretty nice.

it does in IE.

WORKS FOR ME, in addition to that Firefox felt snappier and then IE crashed..
Posted by: berkut on June 24, 2004 05:01 PMAdvertising? What's that?
Adblock is your friend ;)
broken, the hotspot indicator on the map _is_ the advertising. Hide it and you've removed the feature.
Posted by: Asa Dotzler on June 24, 2004 07:54 PMGah, I see now... tens of little "butterflies" all over the map :)
Yahoo! maps doesn't appear to show hotspots for canadian cities (or at least toronto).
I wonder when this'll show up in the normal mapping interface as an option. I had to grab the url arg from your link to get it to work at first, (&BFKey=Intel#mapcontent) though I then saw an intel ad saying to click here to turn off the wifi map.
you'd think they'd make it an option with the smartview stuff on the right.
(Sadly, there aren't make wifi spots listed near me... a couple of starbucks, kinkos, a borders. sigh ... guess they are only listing volunteered/registered info, not wardriving for the data ;-)
