Well, the drawing thing just got to be too much work. Without spending some time I'm not interested in spending, I'm not keeping up with who has one, who wants one, who already got one, etc. So here's what I'm gonna do. I've got 12 more accounts to give away and I'm gonna give them to the first 12 notblog "regulars" who post to this thread. To qualify as a "regular" I'm setting the arbitrary bottom limit that you have made at least 3 comments before my first gmail post. If you think you're a regular, post a comment and the email address where you'd like to receive the invite.
update: if you think you qualify, I still have more to give out.
update2: well, that's all for today. I wasted four invites sending them to email addresses that didn't exist so for next time, be sure to give me a working email address. Google apparently doesn't give back invites that aren't accepted or that bounce.
Posted by asa at June 20, 2004 12:16 PMoh. ;(
I´ve got more than three comments, but not pre-first-gmail-post. It doesn`t help that they aren`t all gmail oriented I guess.
And maybe I would get disqualified for /.ing you recently...
I'm not quite sure that I've done 3 posts... hm, let's think, I did at least one during the time the Rover's landed on Mars (where you was a valuable source of information, BTW; I really digged those transcriptions!), and I did one about you're Opera 7.5 review (I think I did, or did I want to, and thought way too many already did?).
But hey, I'm sticking around long enough to be considered a "regular" , don't you think? :-)
Posted by: Holger Dors on June 20, 2004 12:50 PMI think that I've posted here a few times. Mainly on the Mars landings topics and Firefox stuff. I hardly say anything important though...yay for meaningless drones!
Posted by: rgw on June 20, 2004 12:54 PMI haven't posted, but have been reading stuff on your blog. Does that count?
Thanks.......
Could I have one too, please?
Posted by: Tim on June 20, 2004 01:04 PMMe too
Oups not, i'm disqualified. Like reddragon, I prefer to read in silence.
RGW, I've had two delivery failures trying to send you an invite (and google doesn't give me those back). Can you email me with an address that's likely to get through?

Posted by: Asa Dotzler on June 20, 2004 01:20 PMI too am a very regular reader and only comment where I have something to add - this is none too frequent.
regards,
Glyn
Posted by: glyn t on June 20, 2004 01:22 PMWell, I spammed your blog at least more than 3 times before. :)
Could I get a gmail account? (please?)
Regular Marsrover Spotter.
Posted by: alfons on June 20, 2004 01:50 PM(sorry: remove the .no.spam.no from my mail address)
Posted by: alfons on June 20, 2004 01:51 PMI honestly can't remember if I've commented in your blog three times or not, but I'll throw my hat in the ring since it's close :) It's very cool that you're doing this, Asa.
Posted by: Jon Henry on June 20, 2004 01:58 PMDon't remember if I've commented that much if at all before, but I've visited almost daily for a long time now, coming back for the Spirit / Opportunity discussion. Not to mention admiring some of the bird watching photographs.
So I probably don't "officially" qualify since I'm basically a long time reader / first time caller kind of guy but if you feel like throwing an invite my way, that's great. :)
Posted by: Travis Hill on June 20, 2004 02:17 PMI've posted here a few times, not too sure about "when" though, but hey, tell me if I'm qualified! ;-)
Posted by: Markus Lindström on June 20, 2004 02:28 PMHmm... hope i'm still in the top 12. I guess i made a couple of space topic comments before. Oh, the part before hotmail should read: i_love_openbsd. Just in case ;)
Posted by: Av on June 20, 2004 02:31 PMpick me, asa, pick me!! ;)
Posted by: Hunter on June 20, 2004 02:34 PMGotta love me. Usual email address. :)
Posted by: David Tenser on June 20, 2004 03:06 PMCan't realy see how that way of selecting will be less work. Especially when the picking of a random commenter, can be done using the small bookmarklet in my url. -- Just a read-only-regular
Posted by: Lauritz Jensen on June 20, 2004 03:30 PMI think I qualify. Posted a few times regarding the pronounciation of "Asa". Regards, Dennis
Posted by: Dennis on June 20, 2004 04:09 PMI have got to be a regular, been looking at your blog for well over a year
Posted by: George Deka on June 20, 2004 04:10 PMand commenting, well over 3 i would think
Posted by: George Deka on June 20, 2004 04:11 PMHi Asa! Would like one. I think I qualify, I've tipped you about a few OSX apps a few times.
regards.
Posted by: Ernst Persson on June 20, 2004 04:34 PMWell I don't know if I'm a regular by your criteria -- am I supposed to look over my posting history or are you? -- but I was reading the blog regularly before the first gmail post and I'm definitely a regular Mozilla advocate and support guy at mozillaZine. I think that should count since you have a .mozillazine.org URL. ;-) Anyway if I do qualify, or if you change the criteria -- or if you realise that you didn't specify where the three comments should be posted -- I'd still love an account.
Posted by: Rory Parle on June 20, 2004 04:37 PMSorry for the comment spam, but thanks Asa! You rule! You rule so much I can no longer use a standard full-stop in sentences describing you! Yay!
Posted by: Rory Parle on June 20, 2004 04:41 PMAsa, the invites can be retrieved from the "Sent Mail" folder (or whatever they call it in gmail). You can't undo them, but you can get the link needed to register and email it to someone else.
Posted by: Sebastian on June 20, 2004 05:23 PMSebastian, thanks for the tip!

Posted by: Asa Dotzler on June 20, 2004 05:26 PMWhat I would do is send a test message first. Then if it didn't bounce, I would send the invite.
Posted by: Tony Grisier on June 20, 2004 07:13 PMHopefully I'm not too late.
Posted by: Charles Fenwick on June 20, 2004 08:02 PMOuch, 29 comments already. Oh well, I can hope. :-) And thank you anyway. :-)
Posted by: dolphinling on June 21, 2004 06:19 AMumm... Have you heard about http://www.gmail4troops.com/ ?
Seems like a nice gesture and those people could definitely do with a lot of space for their emails
Sorry, my email (renegadeonline) was busted, I sent you a mail via my ISP account.
Posted by: rgw on June 21, 2004 09:22 AMthe invitations sent to bad emails are not lost, go look in your sent folder in gmail, you'll see the messages and more important, the invitation number you can reuse ;)
Posted by: justsomeone on June 21, 2004 11:27 AMThanks for saying that justsomone! I was getting kinda down for wasting his invites because of my bust email addy.
