almost a dozen winners

And this round goes to BlueMM, Maneesh Gupta, ej2, Ben Tucker, Sander, Tony Grisier, Juuso, Rob Speicher, Jugalator, Yegor Turin, and Greg K Nicholson. To claim your invite, please send an email to asadotzler@gmail.com with your first and last name, and the email address where you'd like to receive the invitation.

I had 12 to give away and I hope you won't mind that number dropped to 11 because I gave one to my mom (who entered the drawing, but shouldn't have had to.)

I'll hold another drawing as soon as I get some more invites or if any of these aren't claimed within a couple of days. I may have also included people who asked to be removed. The number of entries is more than I ever expected and getting too much for me to manage. I honestly thought it was going to mostly be people who actually read this blog or participate in Mozilla or other shared interests. Not a problem, but don't expect me to do a perfect job on keeping everything straight.

Comments

At this point, it might be easier to manage if you do what some other folks have been doing - instead of doing random drawings based on a large number of comments, just say that you'll give them to the first X people to comment. Hopefully people will stop commenting when they can see that you've got enough comments for the number of invites.

You could also ask people to leave their address and name in the comment (MT doesn't publish the email if they give a URL as well).

The google folks don't show any sign of slowing down with the invites...

michaell, I think I might do something like that. Either that or I could just start working my way through the list of names in the order they were added from the first drawing contest.

"I honestly thought it was going to mostly be people who actually read this blog or participate in Mozilla or other shared interests"

I wouldn't be surprised if most of the entries are people who read your blog regularly. I for one read your blog almost daily as I am interested in astronomy and I am a part-time web developer in college. However, I have never commented before and I do not "participate" in Mozilla (except for using it almost exclusively and recommending it regularly).

I can only imagine that you have quite a few other unknown fans not unlike myself...

Just saw this slashdot article: http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=04/06/18/210213 which gives other options you could go for.

The value is dropping all the time, of course, but you could sell them on ebay: http://search.ebay.com/gmail

Or you could hand them to someone else to organise the lottery:
http://www.thebroken.org/gmail/

Or swap them for something or nothing:
http://www.gmailswap.com/

Many options :)

Darin, that's nice to hear. I'd certainly be surprised if there were hundreds of people reading this blog, though.

Yeah, I'm a regular reader, too. I started when you started blogging about the Mars rovers. The Mozilla content is a nice bonus.

Asa, there are thousands, not hundreds of people reading your blog.

You are linked at:
http://gemal.dk/mozilla/blogupdates.html
http://feedhouse.mozillazine.org/
http://planet.mozilla.org/

I'm linked at the first two, and awstats says there were 2475 unique visitors in June alone, :-)

Yet another comment from me...

I wouldn't be surprised if hundreds of people were reading this blog, at least in passing. Not necessarily by coming to this page, but through syndication. I think someone said that http://feedhouse.mozillazine.org/ was getting hundreds of hits daily. There's also planet.mozilla.org, and then the various other aggregation tools. I generally read it through a livejournal syndicated feed.

You could put an image (hosted on a server you can get stats from) in one of your entries (so that it gets hit by most people reading via the feed) and count us.

And here goes another long time daily reader (more than an year, and mostly because of Mozilla stuff) that never participated in the comments. Asa, you're really da man!

Wow! I won!
Thanks Asa

They say good luck comes in threes, but for me it came in two's. :-) I already won a Gmail account at the same day as I won one here (thanks Jeff Walden!) so it seems like some competition dates overlapped each other and I hadn't paid attention to it.

But that means Asa has another account to give to you! :-)
