we're hurtin for Mac machines

It's been quite a while since we lost the developer desktop machine that was building Mozilla Firebird for Mac OS X. Today I discovered via A Whole Lotta Nothing (thanks to feedster) that Jerry Talkington(?) is making OS X Firebird nightly builds. This is great news for OS X testers (myself included). Thanks Jerry!

just out of curiosity - what the f$@%! is going on with Mac development for Moz?

Camino is dead in the water, although there are regular nightly builds done through "official" channels. Firebird is getting continual improvements, and the "official" nightly builds are non-existant.

(as an aside - I spent 45 minutes today poking around on the web b/c I knew "somewhere" I had seen mention that somebody was doing nightly builds for OS X - found it just a couple hours before your post).

Come on! I can understand things being a little out of whack after the AOL divesture, but this is ridiculous.

I've always wondered how Jerry manages to provide all that bandwidth. Shouldn't he be offered an upload account on ftp.mozilla.org to drop his nightlies in?

The answer is that he doesn't provide a lot of bandwidth, because not that many people are using his builds. Asa blogging about it may have just blown that ;)

An FTP account might be an option, if there's anyone at Mozilla.org that could arrange that without too much hassle. Alternatively, there are other folks in the forums who are hosting builds for people.

I've got a web provider account that is paid up until 2010 (yeah dot com!) that provides 15G a month. Last month I hit 6G, but I'm already at 5G this month. If it hits 10G, I'll ask for mozilla.org hosting (or maybe even to do the "official" builds,) but until then I may as well use the bandwith, I already paid for it!
