The old hard drive is grinding again. Last time (and the time before, and the time before) I remeber hearing this sound as I went to bed and waking up to a machine that was inoperative. Ugh. Crossing my fingers and going to sleep :\

Posted by: Oleg on August 19, 2003 02:07 AMIt's not an IBM is it? I had one go pop a few months ago and now my other is making noises - they seem to have a lifespan of 9-12 months. If only I had the money to buy a nice new hard drive.:(

You get sometimes a warning while booting before the HHD dies
I've never experienced any problems with bad clusters on any harddrive owned. Ever. Hardly thought it was possible.
Oh, I remember a friend of mine though, having an old P120 MHz computer with a hard drive that got some bad clusters after 4-5 years. But that's all.
