Neil gives us 18 reasons Thunderbird is better than OE. I'd add one more to that list: 19. Open source, standards-based internet applications just rock!
Posted by asa at August 16, 2003 03:17 PMI switched to Thunderbird a few months ago, and enjoyed using it until it one day decided to eat all my email and no-one on Bugzilla seemed to be able to suggest any way of getting it back. I'll try it again when 0.2 is released, but for now I'm putting up with OE - it's not as good, but at least it doesn't lose my mail.
Posted by: Nik-W on August 17, 2003 06:22 AMMaybe you'll find it in your heart to pass this along.. ;-) (I'm too lazy to register for the thunderboard forums, and since I downloaded firebird on your recomendation...)
here's a screenshot that I think whomever is programing thunderbird could gleen some ideas from: http://www.activewin.com/screenshots/office2k3b2/newmessage.jpg
I like the way that the message list uses 2 rows for each message, allowing you to see the full sender and subject without making the window wider. the favorite folders are cool too.
Two other things that would be cool would be the ability to sort by whether the message has an attachment, and have alternating color rows in the message list.

As for some of those other features, it'd be a lot of work rewriting the message list widget to support them. I think there's definitely something to be gained by studying Outlook 2003, but blindly copying it isn't the way to go, either.
