Having had a lok at the new version it seems a strange half way house of supporting RH7 and not; because it's statically linked we can run it but we can't run plugins like java as we can't use the gcc3.2 versions - we don't have the dynamic libraries. So perhaps dropping support altogether would be better and then including things like XFT in the default builds would be possible. My organisation is still running RH7.3 on the desktops, the RH9 rollout is nearly ready - it's just one more reason I want it ;)

Just a small point with the release notes - the "new additions" bit says that J2SE 1.4.2 beta is required, but doesn't mention that applies only to Linux. I've seen two posts from Windows users already asking if they need to upgrade, so it would be good to clarify that note, at least in the 1.4 final notes.
Goes to show that some people do actually read the release notes at least... :)
